Why we are scared to truly live life

Why we are scared to truly live life

Everyone knows they're dying, but I don't think most truly grasp that WE WILL DIE ONE DAY because that can be terrifying for some: the fear of the unknown. I actually wrote a piece on what I think happens when we die and explained I don't fear death, I fear not living fully before I die.

I was in the shower a few months ago and I was pondering over why we only start living when we're told we're dying and I came to the conclusion of this: When we are told we have a certain amount of time left, it reduces the amount consequences for our actions. For example, people won't go travelling because they're scared of 1. Being in a strange place with strange people especially 'cause the news scares us into believing everyone nonwhite are terrorists and 2. Coming back to nothing stable: no job, no house, and no money. Another example would be that people won't start their own business because they're scared it will fail and they'll be left with no job and more stress. People only start living when they're told they're dying because CONSEQUENCES AREN'T AN ISSUE ANY MORE. They're going to be dead soon so it's okay for them to be impulsive: to not worry about the future, to live in the present moment doing exactly what they want to do. It's okay for them to take out that loan and start that business, because if it all goes wrong they don't have to pick up the pieces 'cause chances are they're going to be dead by the time it all goes to shit anyway. People are scared of dying, so when they get told they only have a certain amount of months/years left on this earth, they realise that they've not fulfilled their life to their fullest potential. They haven't achieved or accomplished everything they wanted to do. We always think we have more time so we'll do it later/tomorrow/next year/when we have the time and money .. or as I like to call it, never. But we seldom realise that actually, there's going be a day and time where we no longer exist and we have to accept that. When you truly accept that one day we will be a ball of energy floating amongst the universe, it will give you immense freedom - freedom to do whatever the fuck you want and freedom to live a happier life.

What would you do if you got told tomorrow was your last day on earth?

  4. This is such an enlightening post! I've always had a list of things I want to do in my life but lack of resources always held me back. I've made it my goal in life to just do things unapologetically and with no regrets because you're right, you never know which day is gonna be your last! (^。^)

  5. There's so much truth in this post. There's so much I want to do, but I don't do it because I'm afraid it'll be bad for my future. I want to go travelling, but don't do it because I have to drop out of college to do that, which leaves me without a degree when I get home... But to be honest, once I have that degree I'm not going to worry so much about consequences anymore. I've already got plans and ideas enough :)

    1. Thank you very much! Yeah that's fair enough - obviously you still have to be mindful about what you want but if you'd rather travel than get a degree, I say fuck your degree off and go travelling cause there's no point doing shit you don't want to do/your heart isn't fully committed to! Hope you achieve everything you set out to do though lovely xxx

  6. Wow that was deep, but a real eye opener. I'd like to think that I'm adventurous but deep down I'm such a scaredy cat. I think that I need to sort out my priorities and do the things that I love even though they scare me!

    1. Haha thank you, I do try to write about 'deeper' topics here on my big wonderful blog lol. It's okay to have fear as long as it doesn't hold you back from doing shit you really want to do! xxx

  7. This couldn't be more true! I think for me the biggest issue is that I hold myself back a lot in the sense that I don't show people who I really am, I'm almost scared to be myself out of fear that others won't like the real me. Which is kind of sad because not being the person you want to be means not living the life you want to live. I'm so determined to change that in 2017 though x

    1. Yeah I get you, but it's just taking little steps at a time: having the courage to share your opinion when you wouldn't have done before, or even just wearing something a little more outrageous because you love it, yanno? xxx
