I write about loving yourself a lot on here because I think it needs to be spoken about more, actually, I think it should be taught in schools, that sounds a bit crazy but surely knowing your self-worth is surely more important than Pythagoras’ theorem
This brings me onto my most important point – we’ve all heard that slightly lame expression “treat people how you wish to be treated” and I 100% agree with this – treat people with kindness, respect and compassion and they will treat you the same way hopefully, but what I feel is even more important is that you should treat yourself the way you want to be treated – set the example of how you want to be treated. This means no more negative self-talk: people will notice if you keep putting yourself down - some will feel sympathetic towards you but others might think that it’s okay to speak to you that way cause you’re speaking to yourself that way. You shouldn’t stand for that behaviour off of anyone – this includes family members and friends too, they don’t get a rite of passage no matter how much you love and care for them. You have every right to take control of your life and cut out all of the bullshit. You have every right to leave behind the people that bring you down without a single word of notice. You have to value yourself and put yourself first. Treat yourself kindly, speak to yourself with compassion and live the way you want to live. It’s not being vain or egotistical, it’s simply knowing your worth and setting a standard of how you wish to be treated
I read this post as treat others the way you want to be treated but after I read it I realized it was treat yourself how you want to be treated. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm working on learning to love myself but it can be difficult because I never think I'm good enough at anything. I keep all these negative thoughts of myself bottled up inside so only I can hear them. That's not the way I should be treating myself though. Thank you for making this post and reminding me I should treat myself with kindness. ♥

I'm sorry you tell yourself those things Michelle. I've started writing down affirmations in my diary each morning and then reciting them in my mirror to try and combat my negative self talk - maybe you would find this useful too? big love to you xxx
DeleteThis is such a great post, I totally agree!

Thank you Lottie x
DeleteI love this post, and I wish someone had told me this when I was growing up! I think we're all guilty of speaking down to ourselves, so it's a tough habit to break, but I'm trying! xx

Thank you Beth, yeah it is a tough habit to break but as long as you try each day to combat negative self talk, I think you'll be alright xxx
